EAT everything you possibly can!! I found Mexico City to be very vegetarian-friendly and tried some phenomenal food – on the streets and in trendy restaurants. Try a street food tour with Club Tengo Hambre. This was a great way to experience the food that Mexico is renowned for – quesadillas, tamales, tacos, with local, fresh ingredients, topped with fiery, roasted salsas. Does it get better than that?! Not only does Club Tengo Hambre take you to some hidden gems of street food stalls you would never find on your own, it’s a great explore Mexico City with a fun group of people. It lasts around 3.5 hours and covers 6 different stops so definitely eat a light breakfast that morning!

STAY at a place that captures the quirky vibes of CDMX (Ciudad de Mexico City). I highly recommend this chic Airbnb with its artistic interiors located a block from Reforma or this cosy boutique hotel complete with a courtyard with hammocks, beautifully appointed rooms, delicious warm breakfast and overall homey vibes.

Walk around Alameda Park and enjoy the art nouveau exterior of Palacio Del Bella Artes, a prominent place for arts and culture in Mexico City. Alameda Park is just one of many beautiful parks in the city. I was pleasantly surprised by all the greenery interspersed within the city streets.

Drink mezcal with its accompaniments. I personally ended up not having a taste for mezcal straight but this is definitely the drink of Mexico and people here take it very seriously. It will be served in a shot glass but you should sip it and enjoy the orange slices with spicy salt on it. Bosforo, a hole in the wall, somewhat eccentric mezcal bar in Centro is a great place to have this experience.
8.
WALK the tree-lined streets of Condesa, a hip neighborhood in Mexico City complete with chic restaurants, cafes, and parks. Take a break and grab a cucumber mojito at the trendy Hotel Condesa rooftop with this awesome wind-up car out front!
9.
GO OUT for drinks in Roma. There is no shortage of trendy bars to go to on Av. Alvaro Obregon. A highly recommended one with creative cocktails concoctions is Licorera Limantour.

PLAN to make a half day trip out to see the pyramids of the sun and moon at Teotihuacan, once one of the most prominent cities of Ancient America. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it is easy to get to with or without a tour group. If you opt for a DIY trip as I did, you can catch a bus there. More details on that in a different post.
